Ron Burns’ Little Orphan Animals? To Help the Real Life Shelter Animals of Jacksonville
Ron Burns’ Little Orphan Animals™ To Help the Real Life Shelter Animals of Jacksonville
Jacksonville, FL (PRWEB) June 7, 2007
In the early morning hours of April 7, 2007, the Jacksonville Humane Society suffered a stunning loss, soon witnessed by a disbelieving news audience across the nation. A fire that started in the laundry area engulfed the animal shelter leaving it in ruin, and claiming the lives of 67 cats or kittens and 18 dogs or puppies.
“When I saw the news images of that shelter in flames, my heart just broke — for the animals and for the volunteers and staff who give so much of themselves,” says Burns. “I feel honored to be able to use my artwork to help rebuild this special place for the dogs and cats of Jacksonville.”
In the aftermath of the tragedy, artist Ron Burns created two new characters for his line of “Little Orphan Animals”™ collection, suitable for T-shirts, note cards and other fundraising products with a percentage of the proceeds going to help pave “The Road to Recovery” benefiting Jacksonville Humane Society.
To purchase items that will help fund the cost of rebuilding the shelter, visit Café Press at: http://www.cafepress.com/loas.
Burns’ Little Orphan Animals have already helped raise millions of dollars to aid a variety of animal causes.
They currently appear on thousands of Arizona state license plates, specialty plates that raise funds statewide to fund spay and neuter programs.
Burns raised millions when he used Little Orphan Animals artwork on T-shirts and other items as part of PetsMart’s “Just a Buck, Change Their Luck” program.
Additionally Burns will paint signature portraits of two of the survivors of the Jacksonville fire. The staff and volunteers of the Jacksonville Humane Society have chosen two of the surviving animals, one cat and one dog, as their muses for Burns. Ironically, both are named Lucky.
Burns attended “The Fur Ball,” a charity event Saturday, May 19, 2007, in Jacksonville that benefits the shelter. He began painting the portraits of the two Luckys live during the event. To watch the progress of the paintings, visit http://www.RonBurns.com.
Ninety-five limited edition giclees on stretched canvas will be made available for each Lucky painting. The limited edition giclees will be available at $ 975 for one, or $ 1,650 for a pair. All giclees will be signed and numbered by Ron Burns and will come with a certificate of authenticity. Until the end of September, a portion of the proceeds from the sales of these and all other Ron Burns artwork at R. Roberts Gallery, in Jacksonville, as well as a portion of the proceeds from the originals when they are sold, will be donated to the Jacksonville Humane Society as part of “The Road to Recovery.”
Ron Burns and R. Roberts Gallery will be hosting an event on September 14, 2007, at the R. Roberts Gallery where Ron will be available to personalize purchased artwork.
Burns is artist in residence for the Humane Society of the United States and has a long-term commitment to improving the lives of animals, such as shelter dogs, and search and rescue dogs. Besides producing original works and private commission projects, Burns has helped raise millions of dollars to benefit animal-related charities. Within the past year he has painted the portraits of dogs owned by celebrities including Elizabeth Taylor, Doc Severinsen, and Joan Rivers as a means of raising funds and awareness of the needs of animals.
His work has been featured on CNN, FOX news, PBS, Forbes magazine, and ABC’s “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.”

Canidae Helps The Pongo Fund Pet Food Bank Provide 250,000 Dog and Cat Meals to Oregon Families
Canidae Helps The Pongo Fund Pet Food Bank Provide 250,000 Dog and Cat Meals to Oregon Families
San Luis Obispo, CA (PRWEB) February 13, 2010
CANIDAE All Natural Pet Foods has partnered with The Pongo Fund Pet Food Bank in Portland, Oregon to distribute super-premium pet food to anyone in need. Beginning with an unprecedented donation of $ 125,000 USD last year, the pet food company continues to assist The Pongo Fund’s founder Larry Chusid to fulfill his vision of helping families in need stay together by ensuring that they are able to feed their companion animals.
“One person shared how their pets were finally not panicking at the time of being fed, so that the hoarding and throwing up due to frenzied eating actually had become minimal and that the animals were finally feeling secure that tomorrow would bring more food. Another man cried and told me stories how his two 14 year old cats depended on him and how they made him get out of bed every day. One lovely older women teared up and confessed that she never thought she would be in such a situation as she is in today. Her son cried and thanked me for our assistance,” said Shannon, one The Pongo Fund’s dedicated volunteers.
The Pongo Fund is already providing thousands of pet meals every month, and is poised to handle a greater distribution capacity as news continues to spread throughout the Northwest. The charity’s professional volunteer coordinator ensures that the 50 active volunteers are well trained and ready to offer dignified assistance to families in need. The Pongo Fund has 200 more people on a waiting list ready to help as demand continues to grow.
On January 24, 2010, guests were lined up around the corner waiting in the rain for the pet food bank doors to open at noon. “In just three short hours we were honored to provide more than 13,000 quality meals for the 465 dog and cat family members of 135 families,” said founder Larry Chusid, who continued, “What began as an effort little more than two years ago to feed two hungry dogs underneath the Morrison Bridge has blossomed into Oregon’s largest single charitable effort dedicated to providing quality dog and cat food for the family pets of anyone in honest need; nearly 250,000 meals to date.”
The Pongo Fund and CANIDAE Pet Foods reach out beyond the pet food bank as well. The extensive distribution of CANIDAE dog and cat food includes support for some two dozen non-profit community organizations in Oregon & Washington, many of whom are experiencing a decline in donations and need extra assistance.
In addition to receiving free super-premium pet food, guests at the pet food bank are given nutritional information and tips for safely transitioning their dogs to an all natural, premium diet. “A lot of these folks were surprised to find that they needed less CANIDAE than the pet foods from grocery stores they were used to feeding,” said CANIDAE Controller Jason Castillo. “We explained that because CANIDAE doesn’t contain the corn, wheat and fillers that some other brands do, there is a lot more nutrition in each pound.”
The Pongo Fund Pet Food Bank is centrally located in Portland, directly across from the Oregon Convention Center and is open the second and fourth Sunday of every month. Anyone who expresses a genuine need is welcome to receive a two week supply of premium Canidae or Felidae pet food for their dogs or cats. Details at http://www.thepongofund.org.
About The Pongo Fund
Founded in 2007 by Larry Chusid, The Pongo Fund has provided over 200,000 quality meals to the dogs and cats of the needy and homeless in and around the Portland, Oregon area, helping to protect these animals from being abandoned or surrendered simply because their families cannot afford to feed them. The Pongo Fund is an all volunteer charity and the only program specifically designed to consistently provide quality dog and cat food to the animals of anyone in need. Their address is PO Box 8244, Portland, Oregon, 97207. The Pongo Fund is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit public charity. http://www.thepongofund.org

HOUSEHOLD HAZARDS THAT PUT PETS, THEIR OWNERS, AND THEIR HOMES IN DANGER Simple and easy way to prevent common overseen hazard
HOUSEHOLD HAZARDS THAT PUT PETS, THEIR OWNERS,
AND THEIR HOMES IN DANGER
Simple and easy way to prevent common overseen hazard
WESTBOROUGH, MA (PRWEB) January 5, 2004
With recent events happening like the house explosion in Pembroke, MA, you think Â?could I have done something to prevent this?Â? In that explosion, it is said that the two house cats may have inadvertently turned the propane tankÂ?s valve, causing the propane line to be uncapped. This caused the propane to flood the first floor, so when a fan used to cool the compressor of the refrigerator was ignited, the house exploded. The litter box for the cats was located two feet from the propane tank. The homeowner was safe and was not home at the time. (Story from WCVB-TV- Boston)
Common Household Hazards:
Along with the propane tank there are many household hazards that a pet with the run of the house can get into, harming themselves and their living environment. Some examples are listed below:
Getting into the trash can = Bones = Chocking
Chewing the wires behind the TV = Wires = Electrocution
Licking products under the sink = Chemicals = Poisoning
Getting on surfaces with candles = Hot wax = Burns
Keep in mind that these are just some of the many household hazards that pets can explore.
About the System:
The Petronix Indoor Boundary Management SystemÂ? works on both cats and dogs. The system can be used with four pets and twelve areas of the home. You could protect your pets by keeping them off the counter that has the candles on it, or keeping the pets out of the kitchen that has the hazardous material under the sink. Basically you can use the system on any piece of furniture, area of the home, and room you choose. The system has three components: the Central Console, the Zone Controller, and the Communication Collar.
The Central Console: (The brain of the system) automatically records the daily time and date each animal/system event took place to assist in determining the effectiveness of the training program.
The Indoor Zone Controller: Allows users to determine where and what range they want to protect, MIN 0-2 feet, MID 2-4 feet, and MAX 4-6 feet.
The Communication Collar Kit: The durable and waterproof construction of the collar with retractable stainless steel electrodes allows comfort for your pet. The collar is equipped to have an audio (beep tone) alert before a static correction. This alert is usually enough warning for a trained pet before the static correction is delivered.
The Petronix Boundary Management SystemÂ? would have been ideal for the homeowner in Pembroke. He could have protected the room with the propane tank with a zone controller, allowing the cats to explore any area of the home besides the room with the tank. This would have allowed him to keep his cats and home safe at the same time.
Key Benefits:
§ Automatically records daily time and date of each pet and system event that took place.
§ Allows system to be easily assembled in rental property with no permanent wiring, hole drilling, or permanent fasteners.
§ Comfortable molded plastic electronic package is petite, lightweight, and contoured to the natural curvature of the pets neck.
§ Comfortable spring-loaded retractable stainless steel electrodes allow maximum pet comfort. Durable waterproof construction allows all weather or
lakeside use without fear of destruction through contamination.
§ Friendly prompted function buttons provide full functionality operation for users with no or limited knowledge of high tech products.
Pricing and Availability:
Petronix, Inc. offers four price packages: Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum. Petronix also sells the Indoor Zone Controller, Communication Collar and the Outdoor Zone Controller separately. For more information on Petronix products and prices please visit http://www.petronix.com.

Love Your Pet: Valentine?s Day gifts for your four-legged one and only
Love Your Pet: ValentineÂ?s Day gifts for your four-legged one and only
New York, NY (PRWEB) February 12, 2004
DonÂ?t be embarrassed if your ValentineÂ?s Day sweetheart is Roscoe the cat or Roxy the dog. According to the American Pet Products Manufacturers 2003-2004 National Pet OwnerÂ?s Survey, nine million Americans will lavish their pets with special gifts on February 14th. With changing lifestyles, more single individuals and couples deciding not to have children, it is no wonder that in our nation of more pets than people, animals feel the love this season, too. Please your pet on this holiday with quintessential gifts of heartfelt cards, mouthwatering treats, delicate fragrances, whimsical toys, dazzling jewelry and comfy sleepwear that will tame the animal in him.
Words of Love: The purrfect card will set the tone for a pawfect gift. Give your canine or feline a Crunchkins Card so you can tell him how much you love him. For dogs, the Crunch Cards are made of edible rawhide and imprinted with non-toxic ink. For cats, the sentimental greeting cards are accompanied by a catnip toy that can be detached for hours of enjoyment. Both cards retail for $ 4.95 and come with a brightly colored mailing envelope (http://www.crunchkinscards.com).
Sweets for the Sweet: Treat your canine gourmand with the Tail Waggers box from FidoÂ?s Bakery and he will be begginÂ? for moÂ?. These cookies made from human quality ingredients are so good that I even eat them (http://www.fidofoodfair.com).
A Great, Big Kiss: For the dog who loves to kiss, lay some Â?Luscious LipsÂ? on him. Gift your dog with DogmopolitanÂ?s lip smackinÂ? plush toy in red velvet. The two squeakers in each set of lips and price tag of $ 20 could make even a L.A. plastic surgeon envious (http://www.dogmopolitan.com).
French Scents: We all love parfum from Paris, so why shouldnÂ?t your pet? FranceÂ?s Dog Generation developed these upscale, unisex fragrances for the mistress who wants her dog or cat to smell better in every social situation. Oh my Dog! ($ 30) and Oh my Cat! ($ 25) is formulated from rosewood, orange leaves, vanilla, osmanthus and freesia. Halloween and Pets: More Trick Than Treat?
Halloween and Pets: More Trick Than Treat?
San Diego, CA (PRWEB) October 17, 2006
Halloween is fraught with unexpected dangers for dogs and cats. Jan Rasmusen, author of “Scared Poopless: The Straight Scoop on Dog Care,“ offers seven tips on how to protect your pets from ghosts and goblins and things that go bump in the night:
1) Check Out Costumes
Some dogs (and a few cats) enjoy playing dress-up, but many others are devout nudists. Remember: fun for you can be misery for your pet. If you do play dress-up, ensure that fabrics are fire-retardant, non-toxic and free of anything the pet can chew off and swallow. Even a pompom can prove deadly when lodged in the throat or intestines. Make certain, too, that costumes are comfortable, don’t chafe, and won’t obstruct vision or cause your animal to panic and run.
2) No Candy for Fido and Fluffy!
Secure Trick-or-Treat bowls of candy out of the reach of pets, and don’t allow pets near kids picking through Halloween bounty spread out on the floor. Chocolate, treats sweetened with Xylitol and even grapes, raisins and apple seeds can be toxic—even deadly. And too much sugar is as harmful to pets as it is for kids. If an accidental poisoning occurs, contact your vet or the Animal Poison Control Center at http://www.ASPCA.org or (888) 426-4435.
3) Prevent Runaways
While you’re handing out goodies, your cat or dog can dart out the door and become injured or lost. Secure all pets carefully before festivities begin. Since clever animals may escape despite your best efforts, get them a microchip or tattoo and current tags. For added safety, engrave tags with a cell phone number and the word “Reward” instead of the pet’s name.
4) Watch Out for Pranksters
Leave nervous and aggressive pets at home, and bring “outside pets” indoors to prevent mayhem and theft. Carousing demons may enjoy painting your cat black or mummy-wrapping your dog, and your tormented or injured pet may bite back (hello lawsuit!) or dash into the street and under the wheels of a passing car.
5) Outshine the Dark
If Fido tags along for Trick-or-Treat fun, make him easily visible with a dog-safe light or strobe or reflective tape attached to his collar. Better yet, try a reflective vest. Find a good selection at http://www.sitstay.com.
6) Beware Deadly Decorations
Candles, even inside a pumpkin, can attract a curious pet and cause burns or painful wax spills. Be especially wary if your dog or cat plays lookout at the window near a lit Jack O’Lantern. Also beware decorations that may prove toxic or scary. Those fake spider webs can be especially dangerous if swallowed.
7) Outsmart Stress
Scary sights and sounds, and strangers at your door, can stress out any pet. Take the edge off with a few drops of a calming flower essence (like Bach’s Rescue Remedy) from your health food store. Better yet, check out Stress Stopper, a product developed for animals by a renowned holistic veterinarian. Find it at http://www.spiritessence.com.
Make Halloween safe and fun for your dog or cat by anticipating and outwitting danger. Whether the festivities are a trick or a treat for your pets, and by extension for your whole family, is largely up to you and the steps you take before and after the fun begins.

Tainted Pet Food Strikes Sonoma County, CA, Rest of Nation
Tainted Pet Food Strikes Sonoma County, CA, Rest of Nation
Sonoma County, CA (PRWEB) May 3, 2007
At least one cat in Sonoma County has suffered near fatal kidney injuries, resulting in five nights in the animal hospital and a $ 7,000 veterinary bill, after eating pet food manufactured by Menu Foods that may have contained a chemical used in making plastics, according to information obtained by the law firm of Brayton Purcell. Several other cases have been reported in pet care facilities around the county.
Nationwide, 15 cats and one dog have died from these products, according to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), which has fielded at least 12,000 complaints (ABC News, March 23, 2007; North County Gazette, April 8, 2007).
So far, Menu Foods has recalled 60 million cans and pouches of pet food (Washington Post, April 9, 2007). The list includes 53 dog foods and 42 cat foods and ranges from grocery store brand names such as Winn Dixie to more specialized foods such as IAMs and Eukanuba, according to the Menu Foods web site. The recall involves the “cuts and gravy” style of pet food plus one dry cat food product, Hill’s Prescription Diet™ m/d™ Feline Dry Food.
Last month, the New York State Animal Health Diagnostic Center at Cornell University and the New York State Food Laboratory found that the pet foods were tainted with aminopterin, a chemical used as a rat poison and also prescribed in certain cancer treatments. Although the FDA could not confirm that the pet foods contained aminopterin, it discovered that the products contained melamine, a chemical used in making plastics and fertilizers.
Both the melamine and aminopterin were contained in wheat gluten imported from China. Wheat gluten is an ingredient used as a gravy thickener. Del Monte Food Products, which also received wheat gluten from the same manufacturer, has now recalled several of its pet beef jerky treats (Press Release, Del Monte Food Products, March 31, 2007). Sunshine Mills, Inc. has recalled several brands of its dog biscuits containing wheat gluten, and Nestle Purina PetCare has recalled some dog food sold under the Alpo® and Mighty Dog® brand names (Press Release, Sunshine Mills, Inc., April 5, 2007).
Getting Help for Your Sick Pet
The FDA provides a complete, up-to-date list of all the recalled pet foods as well as press releases from the companies involved in the recalls on its web site at http://www.fda.gov/oc/opacom/hottopics/petfood.html
Menu Foods has said on its web site that it will take responsibility if its product “is the cause of sickness or death.” It advises pet owners to save their veterinary bills and to call 1-866-895-2708.
At Brayton Purcell, we care about pets and want to help. If you believe your Sonoma or Marin County cat or dog was a victim of tainted pet food, and you are unable to afford veterinary bills while waiting for the manufacturer to evaluate your claim, we are willing to try and help you obtain interim financial assistance. If you are having trouble dealing directly with the manufacturer regarding your veterinary bills, we can also assist you. Please feel free to call us at 1-415-898-1555 or to contact us at http://www.braytonlaw.com/inforequest.htm for an evaluation of your case.

New Online Pet Store Simplifies Shopping for Pet Supplies with Launch of User-Friendly Site: Headovertails.com Specializes in Organic Pet Food & Natural Supplements for Pets
Fargo, ND (Vocus) October 7, 2009 —
This month, pet owners have several reasons to celebrate. Dog lovers will be observing Adopt-a-Dog Month throughout October. Cat lovers across the country will celebrate National Cat Day on the 29th. And all pet owners are celebrating the launch of Head Over Tails for Pets’ new website, headovertails.com, which will easily cut the time spent on shopping for pet supplies in half.
Headovertails.com combines a well designed, easy-to-navigate site with a strict focus on offering only high-quality, healthy products for dogs and cats—including organic pet food, healthy treats, natural supplements for pets, professional grooming tools and durable, long-lasting toys to keep pets vibrant and healthy.
“After careful examination of all the competitors, it was really hard to find top-quality products amongst all the other stuff,” said Rachel Rice, Internet Marketing Manager. “Although there are a lot of big box retailers out selling tons of pet supplies, it’s hard for the consumer to find unique specialty items for their pets. We saw a real opportunity to offer the best and the brightest in the nicest, most easy-to-use format, and we accomplished that with headovertails.com.”
The pet supply market has seen rapid growth over the last few years. This is largely due to recent scares about tainted pet foods coming out of China. The growing popularity of the dietary supplement market is also having an impact, with product developers consistently adding new items to their pet categories. More veterinarians are also beginning to connect significant health concerns to the poor diets and poor nutritional content of average pet food.
Along with the new e-commerce site, Head Over Tails for Pets will also publish mail-order catalogs that will be sent periodically directly to customers’ homes. The catalogs will feature new items, educational content and special promotions. The company also offers customers who sign up for emails the chance to take advantage of weekly promotions and product spotlights, as well as stay up to date on news and information with a monthly e-newsletter.
Overall, headovertails.com makes shopping for pet supplies as easy and fast as possible. “Our product mix is unique, our website is easy to use and it’s convenient to order from us,” explained Maggie McCalip, Director of Market Research. “We deliver the best pet products directly to your door without any hassles. We’re a perfect fit for people who care greatly about their pets; people who want to enhance their pet’s quality of life by giving them safe, natural pet food and quality toys and accessories.”
Head Over Tails for Pets offers a better way to shop for your dogs and cats. The company specializes in offering the best pet products available, including organic pet food, healthy treats, natural pet supplements and professional grooming tools. At headovertails.com—the premium online pet store—you will find over 500 of the finest products available for your favorite dogs and cats.

San Luis Obispo, CA (PRWEB) December 4, 2009
CANIDAE Pet Foods, Inc. (http://www.canidae.com), a manufacturer of all natural holistic pet foods that are fed and recommended by thousands of certified breeders and rescue organizations throughout North America, launched a pet photo contest in October inviting pet owners to submit their favorite photos of their beloved dogs and cats for a chance to win free pet food for a year.
Hundreds of photos were entered into the contest, portraying family vacations, children hugging their dogs, cats by the windowsill, dogs walking along the seashore, and many other personal photos of the entrants’ companion animals.
After narrowing the field down to the top 50 pictures, the entire CANIDAE staff cast their votes for their personal favorites. Kristi Maddox of Broadview, Montana won the dog category for the photo of her Fawn Boxer and Australian Cattle Dog mix jumping in the air to catch snowballs. Maddox wrote, “Our dogs and cats are more than just pets, they are family; and as such their health and nutrition are very important to us. Thank you for making such wonderful foods.”
Maddox’s dogs Laila and Viktor both endured hardship before coming to live with the Maddox family. Laila had been neglected, left chained to a shed to be a “guard dog” and was underweight. Viktor had been thrown from a car window and suffered from a broken shoulder as well as having other signs of abuse. Both are now happy, well-cared for members of the family.
Amy Rodriguez of Farmington, Minnesota won the cat category for her charming picture of her young cats Attis and Arley snuggled close to one another. Rodriguez wrote, “We feed them FELIDAE Grain Free because Attis is an Egyptian Mau and I read that grain free is best for his sensitive tummy.”
In addition to these two grand prize winners, the final vote tallies were so close in the dog category that a second place prize was created and awarded to Diane Scuderi for her photo of Rain, an 8 week old Aussie mix puppy that she helped to rescue after it had been discarded by the side of the road. Scuderi is affiliated with Paw Safe Animal Rescue in Virginia and will receive a 6 month supply of CANIDAE dog food as the second place prize.
“The entire staff here at CANIDAE had a lot of fun looking at and voting on all of these great photos. We noticed that many of these pet owners attached very touching stories to their pictures, describing how they rescued an injured or abandoned pet and did their best to bring them back to health. Often, they said that our food was part of the recovery process. That always puts a big smile on everyone’s face around the office,” said Jason Castillo, Controller for CANIDAE.
Many of the entrants’ photos and stories will appear in a special CANIDAE Pet Foods Facebook Fan Page photo album and on the CANIDAE Pet Foods website.
