Big Cat Rescue Travel Turns Vacations into Donations
Big Cat Rescue Travel Turns Vacations into Donations
Tampa, FL (PRWEB) February 4, 2006
Big Cat Rescue adds a Travel Website through a partnership with YTB Travel Networks’ Fundraising Division, whereby a percentage of the commissions earned will go to Help Feed the Cats. The new Travel Website gives the loyal supporters of Big Cat Rescue another way to help support the organization. Big Cat Rescue is an Educational Sanctuary home to more than 150 big cats located on Easy Street in Tampa, Florida.
The new travel site allows supporters to book all their travel arrangements online. Most people are already booking their travel online today for vacations, business trips and event packages, but now when they book through the Big Cat Rescue Travel website, they are also supporting the cats.
The site is similar to other travel websites using popular search engines, like, Priceline.com, Hotels.com, etc., and offers many services: air, cruises, hotels, timeshares, vacation packages, weekend escapes, rental cars, rail travel, sporting events, concert tickets, theater tickets, theme park tickets, golf vacation packages, golf tee times, restaurant reservations and more. It’s a full service travel site and prices are comparable to Expedia®, Travelocity®, Orbitz®, etc.
Now Big Cat Rescue loyal supporters can make their reservations online at BigCatRescueTravel.com and turn their vacations into donations. “It’s great to get such positive feedback when you implement a new fundraising program,” said Carole Baskin, CEO of Big Cat Rescue, upon receiving the following email from a loyal supporter. “Just letting you know that our company will be using Big Cat Travel from now on. The boss was impressed with the rates and is also a supporter of big cat conservation.”
“We are so excited about partnering with Big Cat Rescue and providing this opportunity to help support the cats,” stated Steve Chandler, Director of Corporate Accounts at YTB Travel, Association/Corporate Division. “We believe that the funds generated by this opportunity will make a positive impact in continuing the efforts of Big Cat Rescue.”
About Big Cat Rescue:
An educational sanctuary founded in 1992, home to more than 150 big cats with a mission to provide the best permanent home possible for the abused, abandoned and retired cats at Big Cat Rescue. The cats live in building enclosures in a very natural habitat with foliage and shelter on the 45 acre site, and are provided the best nutritional and medical care possible. The cats also receive active operant conditioning and enrichment programs to provide for their physical and psychological well being.
Education is a broader mission of the sanctuary to reduce the number of cats that suffer the fate of abandonment and/or abuse and to encourage preservation of habitat and wildlife. People are encouraged to behave in a way that will support these goals by teaching people about the plight of the cats, both in the wild and in captivity. This is accomplished through educational guided tours, educational programs for young people, and by maintaining a website that is the world’s largest and best resource for information about exotic cats.

About DogExplorer.com:
DogExplorer.com is the newest member of The Aeronautic Company’s family of web properties.
DogExplorer.com was inspired by “Ansel,” a rescue dog who lived with DogExplorer.com’s publisher from the time he was a puppy of eight weeks old until he was euthanized due to tragically failing health on September 16, 2005. He was fifteen. The core values of DogExplorer.com requires the site to do all it can to aid in the placement of dogs in adopted homes. To accomplish this goal, in part, DogExplorer.com donates dog picture gallery albums and discussion board forums to no-kill shelters, rescues, and adoption organizations.
Living and traveling with Ansel was an immensely enriching experience thanks to his intelligence, loyalty, love, devotion and companionship. His picture adorns the site’s logo and there is a short video of him on the site as well.
DogExplorer.com is a fun and family friendly website created to provide resources and information about the care of the elderly dog, dog training, selecting and raising puppies, forums for discussions on every canine subject, our dog picture galleries where users can enter contests or simply view or share their pictures with others, and especially information on how and where to travel with dogs. Interview Opportunity: October 16 Is National Feral Cat Day
Interview Opportunity: October 16 Is National Feral Cat Day
Bethesda (Vocus) September 21, 2009
As the calendar approaches October 16 – National Feral Cat Day – feral cats are increasingly in the news, with cities and towns all over the country looking toward humane programs that take into account the needs of the community and of the cats.
“Many Americans don’t really know what a ‘feral cat’ is, but they know they’ve seen them around, because feral cats exist in every community, from urban to rural,” said Becky Robinson, president of Alley Cat Allies.
“Feral cats are a bit of mystery – because they are wary of humans, they may be hidden out in plain sight and living ‘in the shadows.’ Feral cats are members of the domestic cat species like pet cats, but they are fearful of humans and can’t be adopted. When they are taken to animal shelters, they are almost always killed there,” she said.
“Feral cats live healthy, quality lives outdoors, but there are ways make their lives even better, including programs like Trap-Neuter-Return,” said Robinson. “National Feral Cat Day is a great opportunity to learn more about feral cats and why Trap-Neuter-Return is best for the cats and the community.”
National Feral Cat Day, started by Alley Cat Allies in 2001, is celebrated by thousands of people across the U.S., who participate in fundraisers, adoption events, or spay/neuter drives in order to draw attention to the special needs of stray and feral cats.

50,000 Dogs Slaughtered In China, Shows Importance of Dog Vaccines
50,000 Dogs Slaughtered In China, Shows Importance of Dog Vaccines
Boca Raton, FL (PRWEB) August 10, 2006
People who love dogs have expressed outrage over the recent slaughtering of 50,000 dogs in rural China last month. In the Yunnan province of China, Mouding County government workers clubbed and used pitchforks to stab to death 99% of the dogs in the county in an admittedly drastic measure to contain a recent rabies outbreak among dogs and humans.
Rabies is deadly disease lethal to dogs. Most troubling is the fact that humans who are bitten by infected dogs can become infected themselves and die. With no known cure to prevent human death from rabies, government officials in China and the U.S. take the threat seriously.
Criticism of the Chinese government on their problem with dogs has been widespread.
Even the China’s government sponsored news media, normally hesitant to criticize official government actions, has been highly critical of China’s policy on dogs.
At the heart of the problem appears to be insufficient use of vaccinations among dogs particularly in rural areas of China.
On the issue of dogs and dog health, the Chinese government officials indicate over 70 percent of rural households have dogs, but only 3 percent of those dogs have received dog vaccinations.
The Humane Society of the United States has offered to help the Chinese government deal with it’s problems with dogs by offering to help Chinese officials establish a national vaccine program for dogs.
Wayne Pacelle, president of the Humane Society of the United States, stated in a letter to China’s ambassador to the United States that “There are far better ways of addressing rabies control to promote the safety of your citizens, the reputation of China and the welfare of dogs.”
According to Dr. Debra Primovic, Veterinarian and resident dog expert of leading dog health website http://www.petplace.com/dogs.aspx the U.S. protocol for handling rabies outbreaks among dogs is very different.
“In the United States, when a vaccinated dog bites a human being, those dogs are quarantined for 10 days to determine if the dog was capable of infecting the bite victim with rabies. Dogs that are contagious will typically die within that time period containing the spread of the disease.”
In addition, Dr. Primovic explains that the primary difference between U.S. and Chinese policy on dogs and dog health is in the area of dog vaccines.
“Dogs in the U.S. are vaccinated at a much higher rate than in China. Combined with quarantine procedures, a mass killing of 50,000 dogs is unnecessary in the United States and among countries that adopt similar policies.”
Dr. Primovic overseas a team of veterinarians at internet company Pet Place that helps educate owners of dogs about the importance of dog vaccines and dog health.
Her team has recently published a free consumer awareness guide for owners of dogs on the topic of dog rabies and dog vaccines which can be found at:
