PreVisor’s Research Teams to Present in Multiple Venues at 2007 Annual SIOP Conference
PreVisor’s Research Teams to Present in Multiple Venues at 2007 Annual SIOP Conference
Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) April 25, 2007
PreVisor, a leader in employment assessments and selection solutions that connect hiring decisions to business results, today announced that top industrial-organizational psychology researchers from PreVisor and PDRI (a PreVisor company), will participate in twenty-five different sessions in four days during the 22nd Annual SIOP Conference, held at the Marriott Marquis, New York City, April 26-29, 2007.
This year’s conference brings together over 3,400 registered attendees, mostly members of the Society for Industrial & Organizational Psychology (SIOP), to share recent research, case studies, and results in a series of panel discussions, poster sessions, practice forums and symposia designed to inform practitioners of best-practices in their science.
Some of the topics that PreVisor and PDRI scientists will be covering include: the challenges and solutions of internet testing, alternative validation strategies, adaptive skills and adaptive performance, evaluating cognitive ability in an unproctored environment, and advanced approaches to basic qualifications for job performance.
“I congratulate all of our SIOP members who have been chosen to present. We are very proud of our scientific record and continuing commitment to advancing the field of employment testing”, stated Noel Sitzmann, CEO of PreVisor, “The validated research and development work completed by PreVisor’s team of industrial-organizational scientists is what makes our next generation of computer adaptive testing (CAT) capabilities so robust and superior to current CAT assessment methods. In fact, in February of this year, our research in the field of pre-employment test development was recognized at the Association of Test Publishers (ATP) conference.”
In May, PreVisor will make available more than 100 CAT clerical and IT assessments, with hundreds more planned later this year. With the addition of these tests, PreVisor’s new, unified platform will deliver assessments from legacy companies that formed PreVisor: Brainbench, ePredix, and Qwiz. This represents one of the largest libraries of test content offered through a single assessment system covering enterprise level jobs.
Mike Fetzer, PhD, and Vice President of the Simulations and Skills Testing Group for PreVisor, explained the unique benefits of the next generation of CAT. “Even after many years of online screening and assessments, most of the providers in the space still use a ‘static test’ methodology. In other words, they present static pages with a finite number of questions or items, which vary between easy, medium and difficult responses, and use one set of scoring answers. While this can still be a reliable way to measure skills and knowledge, it does not take advantage of the best of today’s web-based technologies. Capitalizing on technology strengths and test design sophistication is what sets our CAT apart. It provides increased security and accuracy, since the questions that are presented are unique to each candidate, and therefore not easily copied or distributed.”

A Two-Tongued Cat Discovered In Home Of Small Town Couple
A Two-Tongued Cat Discovered In Home Of Small Town Couple
(PRWEB) May 28, 2005
Odd-sized eyes. Anopthalmia. Duplicated ears. Kittens being born with two-heads or with two-faces and even at times being born conjoined. All of these are just some of the medical abnormalities that some cats have been born with. When these cats are born with these conditions, sometimes they will only live for a few minutes, but some have been known to live a very long life. In the cases of medical abnormalities in cats, it has only been known that kittens are only born with one abnormality at a time. There has never been a record of a kitten or a cat being born with two different abnormalities, until now. A case of one such cat recently turned up in a small American town of Dobson, North Carolina in the countryside of one of the farming communities.
In late December of 2004, a woman by the name of Delores Whittington was talking on the phone when she noticed something strange and unusual about her pet cat named, Five Toes (aptly named for the fact that she is a polydactyl cat).
“I was talking to someone on the phone when I heard Five Toes meowing up on top of the refrigator,” said Delores. “I looked up and the next thing that I knew these two tongues came out of her mouth. It was quite shocking to see.”
Thinking that she had hurt herself, Delores and her husband, truck driver William Whittington, rushed the cat to a Dr. Renfrow Hauser, a Veterinarian located in Mt. Airy, NC. The vet didn’t know what to think when Delores told him what she had saw. This was something that he had never heard of before in a cat. He examined Five Toes and proclaimed her to be a very healthy cat and then he wanted to see the two tongues for himself. He touched the end of her nose and stood there as he watched her flick out not one, but two tongues at the same time. Seeing her do this came as quite a shock to the vet that he didn’t even charge for the vet visit.
“It was shocking when I first saw it, too,” William said to friends and co-workers. “I mean in the middle of the night I woke up and on my way to the bathroom, I saw Five Toes licking herself with her two tongues. This was a very bizarre and eerie sight to see especially in the dark.”
William told his co-workers at Corder Trucking, Inc. about Five Toes and nobody believed him at first until they saw it for themselves. Their comments along with others who have seen this cat range from, “Quite bizarre,” to “Strange,” to “Devil Cat,” to sometimes saying nothing at all (at least not until the initial shock wears off). Even Ricky Allen, a Mt. Airy newspaper reporter, was stunned and amazed when he did a news story about this cat and his editor even put the story on the second page of the Sunday edition.
“It is always amazing to see her use both of her tongues,” Delores commented, “but what I don’t understand is how she kept it a secret for four years.”
When Five Toes was born four years ago, she never showed signs of not being able to eat or having trouble breathing. She grew up quite normally with the exception of the fifth extra toe and the two tongues. Her parents was never born with polydactylism nor were her littermates born with any strange or unusual medical abnormality.
“I guess it’s because both two tongues are the same size is the reason that she hid it so well,” believes Delores. “It’s probably the reason why she never had any problems in learning to use both tongues so quickly.”
Five Toes can use both her tongues either at the same time or separately to lick herself, to eat, or to drink. So, it makes it hard to tell which one is the dominant tongue in each case.
“She uses both so well,” said William, “but she always likes to use both tongues separately now that we know about it.”
Recently, Five Toes has been profiled in a Ripley’s Believe It Or Not! Comic strip as well as on two websites, one about medical abnormalities in cats hosted by Sarah Hartwell and on a Funny Feline Photo Gallery hosted by Cleo and her crew. Even Gary Bell, a local photographer out of Pilot Mountain, NC, has recently become the cat’s exclusive photographer. He was so amazed by this cat that he even didn’t charge for taking professional photos of her showing off her two tongues.
When asked what it is like living with an unusual cat such as this, Delores just had this to say. “It was weird at first. I mean whenever she licked herself or ate you would see these two tongues come out,” Delores said. “It shocked me and my husband to see her do this. Of course, now we’re used to it and it doesn’t shock us at all any more.”
“We don’t know what the future holds for Five Toes, but I predict only good things ahead for her,” Delores said as she held her cat and hugged her. “I mean she’s been on two different websites already, Ripley Entertainment profiled her in their comic strip, and now someone by the name of Chad Arment has done a brief write up about her for his Strangeark newsletter. Now, my daughter is writing up a little comic book about her. So who knows what the future will hold for her.”
Who knows indeed. When asked about all of this attention, Five Toes had this to say, “Meow,” followed by a purr before she stuck out both tongues, but a comic book about a two-tongued cat. It looks like Five Toes just may give Spongebob a run for his money.
Five Toes resides in the home of her owners, Delores and William Whittington, in Dobson, NC. She is a registered Household Pet Cat through the United Feline Organization out of Bradenton, Florida and is a Burmese mix. Her favorite activities are playing with her cat toys and catnip, sleeping, and showing everyone her two tongues every chance that she gets. Her favorite foods are Special Kitty and Purina Cat Chow in both wet and dry varities. Delores Whittington is herself a homemaker and a business woman. She runs a kennel named “Little Rose Kennels” out of her home where she raises Louisiana Catahoula Leopard Dogs and Dalmatians. William Whittington, her husband, is a truck driver who works for Corder Trucking Inc. out of Ararat, NC.

Best Friends Animal Society First Responders Assessing Animal Rescue Needs in Flood-Ravaged Tabasco, Mexico
Best Friends Animal Society First Responders Assessing Animal Rescue Needs in Flood-Ravaged Tabasco, Mexico
Tabasco, Mexico (Vocus) November 7, 2007
A team from Best Friends Animal Society has arrived in the Mexican state of Tabasco to assess the effect of recent floods on the animal population. The situation is reminiscent of Hurricane Katrina, with hundreds of thousands of homeless residents. One report indicated that as many as 100,000 cattle and other domestic animals and tens of thousands of family pets are stranded by the floods.
“We are stunned by the lack of information in the media on this disaster’s impact on animals,” said Paul Berry, chief executive officer of Best Friends Animal Society. “We’ll do a thorough assessment and publish our findings ASAP, so other international organizations can determine how best they can help.”
Best Friends helped save 6,000 dogs and cats during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in 2005, and has since become one of the more well-known animal rescue groups based in the United States.
Rich Crook, rapid response manager for Best Friends, met today with Mexico’s Minister of Health to discuss current recovery plans. And Crook will meet with military officials on Wednesday and tour the disaster area by military helicopter to determine what is needed to help animals survive the flooding conditions.
Estimates are that hundreds of thousands of Tabasco residents are homeless and living in shelters. Another 80,000 others are said to be trapped in remote areas of the state. Many residents are trying to get to their homes to remove clothing and personal belongings, including pets that may have been stranded.
In a British Broadcasting Corporation article, President Felipe Calderón called the situation “extraordinarily grave.” Then in a recently televised address he said: “It’s one of the worst natural disasters in the history of the country.”
As the situation develops, Best Friends will continue to update its members and the news media on the progress of its animal rescue activities. For more information and to keep up with developments, visit: http://www.bestfriends.org .
About Best Friends Animal Society
Located on 33,000 acres in Kanab, Utah, Best Friends Animal Society operates the country’s largest sanctuary for homeless pets and is home, on any given day, to about 1,500 dogs, cats, horses, rabbits, birds and other animals. Best Friends works globally with animal shelters and rescue groups to bring about a time when there will be no more homeless pets. Best Friends advances initiatives nationwide that promote community approaches to make the world a better place through kindness to animals, including adoption, spay/neuter, and humane education programs.
“Kindness to animals builds a better world for all of us.”

Helping Cat Parents Down from a Tree – Understanding Litter Box Troubles
Helping Cat Parents Down from a Tree – Understanding Litter Box Troubles
New York, NY (PRWEB) March 23, 2005
A catÂ?s relationship with his litter box ranks as one of the great mysteries of natureÂ?at least humans think so.
HereÂ?s the scenario. Kitty saunters off to the litter box. As the destination draws nearer, he begins to mull over some concerns. He asks: Â?What are my options?Â? He thinks, Â?This is my chance to advertise.Â? If not feeling well, he might ask, Â?Did it hurt the last time I did this?Â? In short, the decision to use the litter box results from a delicate balance of issues, more than just the urgency to go.
Despite the good example of his mother during kittenhood, our cat doesnÂ?t feel that he has a contract to use the litter box. He does so merely out of habit. Some chief reasons for not sticking to routine include uncleanliness, inconvenience, territoriality, and discomfort. With trial and error, and patience, the problems of uncleanliness (Â?What is that stink?Â?) and inconvenience (Â?This thing isnÂ?t big enough for a hamster!Â?) arenÂ?t too difficult to solve. The problems of territoriality and discomfort, on the other paw, are the least understood, and most intractable.
Besides excreting metabolic wastes, when a cat urinates and defecates it is making a very personal statement: Â?Here I exist, and enter my realm at your peril!Â? Suffice it to say, kitty believes this with all his heart, especially when he shares his home with another feline. In fact, he is taking a risk if thereÂ?s a squabble going on over dominance. More often than not, the squabble is invisible to the human eye and is relegated to the field of battle, the litter box. The besieged kitty finds an easy solution: Shred the litter box contract – Â?It was never any good any way!Â? – and find another more original (and private) spot.
The discomfort problem arises when kitty is not feeling well, either from minor or serious illness, and learns to associate the uneasiness or pain felt while urinating and/or defecating with the litter box itself. In his mind the discomfort and litter box become one and the same thing (no one has to be Einstein here!). The litter box – for pooing, peeing, or both – suddenly becomes off limits. For the kitty experiencing muscle weakness or balance problems, going to the litter box may no longer be physically possible or worth the effort, or, if he has to go too frequently, not worth the trouble. Last but not least, a very old cat may just have forgotten about the litter box.
Well, so much for understanding the problem better. What can help? A new product is available that, though not a panacea, promises to significantly lessen the frustrations and tensions that crop up between cat and parent when a litter box problem rears its ugly head.
Catpaper is an absorbent paper that is pressed tightly to a plastic backing. Liquids (including urine, feces, and vomit) are blotted and canÂ?t get through, making for spectacularly easy cleanup, and protection of household surfaces like rugs and upholstery. Â?The idea of Catpaper came out of desperationÂ?, says its inventor, Ken Rossner, a retired biologist who lives in New York City. Â?Six apartment-bound cats, three with chronic renal failure, resulted in frequent mishaps with the litter boxes. I wondered if others could use this stuff too, and so began our small web business. IÂ?d like to share the following customer comments.Â?
L.P., Allentown, PA “I really do love Catpaper. It’s the purrrr-fect solution for Reesie, our 18-year-old “senior citizen” cat, that has taken to tinkling on the sofa – who knows why? … We’ve used everything from plastic tarps (very lovely) to garbage bags (equally nice). Catpaper is the only product that is 100% absorbent while not being a huge, crinkly eyesore. Thanks for a great product!”
K.C., Brooklyn, NY Â?IÂ?ve been recommending Catpaper to everyone. …itÂ?s gonna save me a ton of money on futons ruined by my diabetic cat.”
S.P., Boone, IA “Catpaper is one of the highlights of the year for my eight special-needs cats and me. The ink from the local newspaper had been staining walls and floors (Millie, 21 and blind, can’t always determine when her little behind is in the litter box; Isabel, 9 and feral/autistic, stands to urinate and tries to see how high up the wall she can aim) – Catpaper to the rescue! No more mopping and scrubbing; just fold, dispose, and cut new pieces to lay flat or to hang on the wall. The other six cats find Catpaper makes excellent cat mats for sitting or sleeping, and the layer of Catpaper under the sofa slipcover has proven invaluable (and is much less noisy than using plastic sheeting or Mylar).”
Catpaper comes in pads and rolls, and can be purchased ($ 9.65 to $ 61.77, depending on the amount) off the Catpaper web site: http://www.catpaper.com or by calling toll free (866) Lilycat (545-9228). ThereÂ?s lots more information about Catpaper on the web site.

Our Place to Paws Seeks Advertisers, Sponsors for “10% for Animals” Program
Our Place to Paws Seeks Advertisers, Sponsors for “10% for Animals” Program
Waltham, MA (PRWEB) August 20, 2007
Our Place to Paws, a Web site by and for animal lovers that debuted in March of this year, is seeking advertisers and sponsors for its “10% for Animals” program.
Our Place to Paws (http://www.ourplacetopaws.com) features informative, quirky and fun articles about pets and wildlife, from regular news stories to columns penned by “animal columnists” such as Daisy the Cat, Orson the Chow and Opus the Opossum. Also featured on the site and in the free monthly e-newsletter are simple animal art projects that kids can do at home, a monthly Reader Photo Spotlight contest with a $ 20 gift certificate prize and a Cats vs. Dogs essay contest for writers of all ages.
“Our Place to Paws is only five months old, and we’re seeking advertisers to help keep our online community of animal lovers alive,” said Faye Rapoport DesPres, editor of the Web site. “Our goal from the start has been to find ways to support non-profit animal rescue and welfare organizations, and we will donate 10% of any advertising dollars to the non-profit animal organization of the advertiser’s choice.”
Currently, the Our Place to Paws blog (http://www.ourplacetopaws.blogspot.com) is chronicling the health care journey of Hamilton, a cat who has been diagnosed with hyperthyroid condition and who will soon be treated with a radioactive iodine shot in Boston. The blog also features animal photographs, news and videos.
“I started Our Place to Paws simply because I love animals and am passionate about their welfare, and wanted to develop creative ways for people to read and write about animals online,” Rapoport DesPres said. “Now I have a group of loyal readers who care just as much about animals as I do, and we want to find ways to help. Because we’re so new, we are offering extremely low advertising rates on our site that won’t even register on most companies’ budget radars.”
For more information about advertising on the Our Place to Paws Web site and in the free monthly e-newsletter, and taking part in the “10% for Animals” program, contact Faye Rapoport DesPres at 781-799-4739 or visit http://www.ourplacetopaws.com.

Motocross Ignition Enhancement Specialists Enter Italy
(PRWEB) September 15, 2005
Motiv International today announced the appointment of a further international distributor, MotocrossLAB.com of Milan, to sell and support the iKAT / iCAT system.
The news comes after creating distribution outlets in Spain, Holland, France, South Africa and the USA.
Motiv sales and marketing manager Simon Hawkins said the appointment of Maurizio Di Mauro (MD of MotocrossLAB.com) had followed increased interest in the iKAT in the Italian motocross market.
“The move into Italy has been fuelled by significant interest from a number of professional motocross riders,” said Mr Hawkins. “We believe the testing results Â? once completed Â? will see the adoption of the iKAT as part of their racing armoury. We look forward to working with a number of the very successful Italian Teams in conjunction with MotocrossLAB.”
The iKAT/iCAT is a patented device, which creates a bigger spark, dynamically changing the sparkÂ?s shape at the spark plug. Champion riders such as Heath Voss, Christian Iddon, and now Spain’s Xavi Hernandez and David Lopez endorse the iKAT, which is known as the pro-riderÂ?s secret weapon.
Other riders/teams who use the product include: Rob Herring, CAS Honda team, Paul Iddon, Stephen Sword, Tony Rickardsson, Jukka Pirinen, Niko Kalatie, Jocke Karlsson, Rizla Suzuki Road Race team, Redbull Rookies, the Australian CDR Team.
The iKAT (formerly know as iCAT) manufacturer, Motiv International, United Kingdom, is working to establish a solid foundation of distributors and resellers throughout the world.
Motiv is committed to further developments in performance ignition technologies. The iKAT is primarily sold as an ignition enhancement device for motocross however Jet Ski, Quad and Snowmobile racers also use it. Motiv also markets an industrial grade electron catalyst, called the GBSixT, which is successful in the gas powered forklift truck market.
