The Top Ten Celebrity Holiday Presents for Pets Forecasted by Pet Lifestyle Author and Expert, Sandy Robins

The Top Ten Celebrity Holiday Presents for Pets Forecasted by Pet Lifestyle Author and Expert, Sandy Robins

San Diego, CA (Vocus) September 21, 2010

Celebrity pets are almost as primped and pampered as their famous parents, so you can only begin to imagine what kind of holiday gifts celebs will bestow on their furry, four-legged friends. As the holidays inch closer, pet-lifestyle expert and author of “Fabulous Feline Health and Beauty Secrets for the Pampered Cat,” Sandy Robins, has announced her picks for the Top Ten Celebrity Pet Presents for the season bringing new meaning to the phrase, “You lucky dog!”

1.    The Bush’s: Mr. Jinx using the toilet in Meet the Parents may not be just Hollywood magic. Enter the Litter Kwitter, a cat toilet training system that will eradicate the use of litter and a litter box altogether, allowing your cat to help decrease it’s carbon “pawprint.” Don’t be surprised if former President George W. Bush gifts his cat Willie with the Litter Kwitter so he can use the royal throne. Robins says, “Cats are really smart. With “purr”severance and the help of this DVD you can train fluffy to flush.”

2.    Mariah Carey & Nick Cannon: These two have been spotted in Aspen with their pup during the holidays, but how can hound stay hot like his momma in the freezing temperatures? The Pet ZZZ Pad is a safe heating pad for animals. “This is a wonderfully functional gift for your cat or dog,” says Robins. “All pets love to snuggle, and a heating pad will not only give them a warm snooze zone, but will help eradicate painful arthritis and joint issues that are further exacerbated by cold weather.”

3.    Simon Cowell: Not all celebs flock to a Fido or feline. Believe it or not, Simon Cowell is a huge hamster fan and had 18 while growing up. He even trained them to do tricks. Robins says, “Avoid the traditional and celebrate the holidays by adding a furry or scaly friend to the mix.” PETCO carries “My First Home Hamster Kits” and “My First Home Reptile Kits” that donate a percentage of proceeds to the Tree of Hope Fundraiser benefitting local animal welfare groups. Robins cautions, “both hamsters and reptiles require a commitment, so make sure your family is ready for a pet before buying one.”

4.    Lindsay Lohan: Based on her recent behavior, it seems Lindsay might be in greater need of a short leash than her maltese, but the Patento Dog-e Walk is an incredible training device for dogs that shouldn’t go overlooked. It automatically pulls on the leash when the dog tries to lead. Robins says, “This is the first time it has hit the U.S. shelves and can only be found at PETCO, so I’d grab one before it sells out.”

5.    Adam Sandler: If your pooch is a big eater like Matzo ball, Adam Sandler’s brawny bulldog, Robins suggests the Thanksgiving Kit & Holiday Sampler from Merrick. “People food is for people, but this kit will give your dog his own turkey dinner packed with wholesome ingredients that won’t ruin his diet so your dog can be a true part of the family dinner.”

6.    Ron Burgundy: Celebrity news anchor, Ron Burgundy, loves wearing matching PJs with his dog Baxter and why not? Robins suggests having a little fun and getting your doggie his or her own set. “Many dogs with short coats really feel the cold. Fashion meets function with these pet pajamas that are ideal for home wear and smart enough for a casual outing to the store.”

7.    Rosie O’Donnell: Talk show hosts like Rosie often battle it out for air time with their co-hosts. At least now she doesn’t have to share the airspace with her pooch. Barkoff, an ultrasonic bark deterrent, trains your dog to not bark without reason. “This no-pain training aid is perfect for noisy dogs and has no wires or cords so you can take it with you anywhere, meaning your dog is always welcome,” says Robins.

8.    Matt Lauer: Even though he swore he would never wear a Snuggie, Matt Lauer sported one on The Today Show… will his dog be next? Robins states, “I love my Snuggie and now they are making a pup-sized version. This is the perfect gift for you and your pet to curl up together and spend some quality time on the couch.”

9.    Drew Barrymore: This starlet recently exclaimed on The Letterman Show that her mixed breed rescue dog is “the best cuddler in the world.” She’s sure to miss her cuddle buddy when she travels to film a movie, so Robins suggests buying a Pillow Pet for those lonely nights. “They are an ideal accessory for car travel for both kids and pets and useful at your destination too,” says Robins. The pet-themed animals unbutton to create a pillow for the perfect cuddle.

10.    Betty White: During interviews Betty White has called her cats “brilliant conversationalists” and gushes about what great companions they are, so it’s easy to picture her feline friends all decked out for the holidays in this adorable Elf Costume complete with elf boots. “Cats as a rule don’t like to dress up but perhaps your cat will oblige and wear one of these fun costumes just long enough for you to take a happy holidays photograph to amuse your friends. Remember to give it a treat after the photo session!”

It’s Cats vs. Dogs at ‘Our Place to Paws’

It’s Cats vs. Dogs at ‘Our Place to Paws’

Waltham, MA (PRWEB) March 19, 2007

There’s a new Web site in town, and you might either find it a-”mews”-ing — or a little “ruff.”

Our Place to Paws (http://www.ourplacetopaws.com) was launched Monday to bring animal lovers together online to read and write about the animal world, discuss animal-related issues, read book reviews, submit photos and support the work of non-profit animal organizations.

“The venture began when I was sitting at my computer one day, and one of my shelter-rescued cats refused to move off my lap,” said Faye Rapoport DesPres, the Web site’s editor and president of Our Place to Paws, Inc. “I realized that basically my pets rule my life, and I know there are a lot of other people out there who feel the same way.”

Our Place to Paws offers readers an opportunity to read stories about — and “by” — both pets and wildlife. The site features a variety of “animal columnists” who debate the value of human opinions and assert their views on various issues. There’s Orson the Chow, Daisy the Cat, and of course Opus the Opossum, who serves as the night-life columnist. All columnists refused to be interviewed for this article, although we did receive a request for fresh water in their water dish.

In addition, online visitors can submit photos of their favorite animals. One section of the site, “Cats vs. Dogs,” offers the opportunity to send in photos and stories about canines and felines to compete for a monthly prize.

Our Place to Paws visitors will also learn about non-profit organizations that work with animals or participate in animal rescue or protection activities. One featured article includes an in-depth interview about guide dogs with a spokesperson from Guiding Eyes for the Blind of Yorktown Heights, NY, one of the foremost guide dog schools in the world.

The Our Place to Paws blog (http://www.ourplacetopaws.blogspot.com) offers frequent updates and an opportunity for readers to submit photos of adoptable animals who need homes.

“We’re really just at the beginning of our journey to both entertain readers and find ways to help animals,” Rapoport DesPres said. “We will continually be expanding and evolving the content of the site, and hope to eventually include pet products and other e-commerce offerings so that we can donate a portion of our proceeds to animal rescue and protection organizations.”

For now, Our Place to Paws is a labor of love — of our furry, feathered and even scaly friends. For more information, visit http://www.ourplacetopaws.com.

Murdoch University Warns All Dog Owners About Hidden Snakebite Signs

Murdoch University Warns All Dog Owners About Hidden Snakebite Signs

Imagery

(PRWEB) November 26, 2010

With the arrival of summer just days away, dog owners have been warned to monitor their dogs closely this summer, especially if they live or walk near bushland reserves. According to Murdoch University’s Dr Katrin Swindells, it is often difficult to tell when a dog has been bitten.

“While some dogs (and cats) will show symptoms known as pre-paraletic signs such as periods of wobbliness, collapsing, inappropriate urination or defecation,

or vomiting, others will not show any signs – and a bite site can be extremely hard to find amongst their hair,” she said.

“Your pet may not feel any pain, there may not be any swelling and they may not yelp or cry. Some pets show no initial symptoms, but can stop breathing within an hour of being bitten.”

“If you see your pet come into contact with a snake, take it to your vet immediately for assessment.”

Dr Swindells added that animals can die from paralysis caused by the venom in a venomous snake bite – so it’s important for owners to act immediately to treat the animal with anti-venom.

Dr Swindell’s advice for all pet owners:

“If your dog or cat has killed a snake, take them and the snake to your vet – so they can identify the kind of anti-venom your pet needs. But don’t kill the snake.

Not only is it illegal, it puts your own safety at risk. Vets can usually run tests to learn what kind of snake has bitten your pet.”

Unlike first aid training for people, pressure bandages are not recommended for pets with suspected snake bites. “Animals are most commonly bitten around their head, neck, shoulders and chest – so a pressure bandage in any of these areas would interfere with the animal’s breathing.”

The good news, according to Dr Swindells, is that survival rates are generally high, around 90% of pets expected to survive if they receive the correct treatment.

Sometimes the cost of anti-venom, which can range between $ 300 and $ 2000 depending on the type, can prevent pet owners from proceeding with treatment, so in some cases the pet is euthanased. Dr Swindells recommends pet insurance to ensure that owners can afford the cost of treatments in emergency

situations.

Certrec?s Office of NERC Compliance Solves Several NERC Compliance Challenges for Generation Owner

Certrec’s Office of NERC Compliance Solves Several NERC Compliance Challenges for Generation Owner

Ft. Worth, TX (PRWEB) June 29, 2011

Certrec, a leading regulatory licensing and compliance solutions provider, is pleased to announce that a Southeast Generation Owner (GO) overcame several NERC compliance challenges through deployment of Certrec’s Office of NERC Compliance solution.

A leading Southeast Generator Owner faced several key NERC compliance challenges. Keeping up with changes in NERC Standards and Regional Entity Requirements, while facing staff and budget restrictions, and stretched capacity.

Many NERC compliance activities required the Generator Owner to identify conditions for evaluation action. Other requirements called for maintaining a record for supporting audits and mitigation activities that may exist. The Compliance Manager also needed a convenient way to manage NERC compliance projects, but lacked document libraries that were easily searched. Additionally, the compliance team lacked a way to store important NERC compliance information in one place that they could easily access.

For a Generator Owner that strives for excellence, these needs were critical in a constantly changing regulatory environment. To address these challenges, the GO chose Certrec’s Office of NERC Compliance solution.

The NERC Monitoring service provides the Compliance team with daily notification of key regulatory activities, issues, alerts, and important industry news. This alone saved time and ensured they didn’t miss critical updates. Accessing the eLibrary of NERC, FERC, and Regional Entity standards and enforcement actions from anywhere in the plant via their iPads and iPhones, was an added bonus.

The compliance team also chose CERTREC’s Taktix, a NERC-specific project management system that bridges geography, streamlines project planning and project tracking, facilitates moving large and diverse project documents between teams and locations, and allows planning authors and project reviewers to interface with others’ comments simultaneously.

Lastly, CERTREC’s Condition Action Tracking System (CATS) provided the Generator Owner with a robust corrective action tool for identifying, evaluating, assigning, and tracking compliance conditions and actions until resolved.

“CERTREC’s Office of NERC Compliance tools have made a real difference in our compliance program and the ease with which ongoing regulatory tasks can be completed. The Taktix and CATS web-based solutions have enabled me to maintain my focus on day-to-day operation and management of my facilities while being comfortable with my compliance program’s viability. I get daily notifications of what is important and compliance tasks are managed and tracked to completion while maintaining needed historical records,” stated the Company’s Senior Manager responsible for NERC compliance.

“The Office of NERC Compliance is a complete solution for NERC compliance professionals struggling to manage the regulatory compliance process,” says Ted Enos, President of Certrec. “Combining daily notification of important regulatory information with an eLibrary of FERC, NERC and Regional Entity standards and rulings with condition tracking and project management tools, gives Generator Owners and Operators the ability to manage the regulatory and compliance process to their advantage.”

CERTREC, founded in 1988, is a regulatory and compliance solutions provider that helps utilities manage the NRC, FERC, and NERC regulatory process to their advantage. With more than 250 cumulative years of regulatory and industry experience, Certrec’s licensing and compliance solutions, performance improvement, and technical services solutions help professionals better manage the risks of the regulatory and compliance process.

Shaw Festival 50th Season Continues to Celebrate with Extension of 2 Productions

Shaw Festival 50th Season Continues to Celebrate with Extension of 2 Productions

Niagara-on-the-Lake, ON (PRWEB) September 07, 2011

The extension of two shows at the Shaw Festival, record breaking sales for the landmark musical My Fair Lady and clear evidence that the plays of Bernard Shaw are still relevant to theatre-goers across Canada and the United States are just some of the reasons the Shaw Festival Theatre has cause to celebrate.

The Niagara Theatre is pleased to announce the extension of the world premiere production of Maria Severa by Jay Turvey and Paul Sportelli, as well as Drama at Inish – A Comedy by Lennox Robinson, both directed by Jackie Maxwell. Each production has been performing to sold-out houses and standing ovations since previewing in June. Their runs will be extended by four performances each, beginning September 25. The Niagara-on-the-Lake theatre schedule offers Maria Severa performances Sunday September 25, Tuesday September 27, Thursday September 29 and a final performance on Sunday October 2, all at 8 pm. The Drama at Inish – A Comedy’s performances run Tuesday, October 4 at 2 pm, a special matinee, 8 pm shows on Thursday October 6, Saturday October 8 and Sunday October 9, the final performance. Ticket prices range from $ 46 to $ 91, with youth tickets available for just $ 30. Special matinee pricing is available for students at $ 24 and $ 41 for seniors.

Not only has this season been a milestone in the Shaw Festival’s history, but the 50th season has also realized a number of significant box office benchmarks at the Ontario theatre:

My Fair Lady, which has garnered praise from both audiences and critics alike, will be the best selling production in the history of the Festival. Directed by Molly Smith, The Shaw’s fresh reinterpretation of the popular Lerner and Loewe musical, based on Shaw’s Pygmalion, will have attracted close to 90,000 people by the end of the season.

Looking to the next 50 years and frankly assessing the relationship between Bernard Shaw and the Festival, The Shaw is pleased to report that at the conclusion of the 50th season the plays by Bernard Shaw, Heartbreak House, On the Rocks and Candida, will have sold over 60,000 tickets. Given that this represents 24% of overall ticket sales and is a marked increase over the last four years, it affirms the continued importance of The Shaw’s namesake in the fabric of the Festival.

“These figures give us the confidence to continue vigorously re-examining, reimagining and ultimately presenting plays by Shaw in fresh, interesting and innovative new ways,” noted Artistic Director Jackie Maxwell.

Tickets purchased under the “Family Ticket” program have experienced an increase of 248% over 2010 season sales.

The Shaw has also proudly welcomed visitors from every province in Canada, two territories and every state in the United States this season.

The Shaw Festival’s 50th season continues until October 30, 2011 with productions of My Fair Lady, Candida, On the Rocks, The Admirable Crichton, Drama at Inish – A Comedy, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, The President, Maria Severa, Heartbreak House and When the Rain Stops Falling on the Festival’s four Niagara-on-the-Lake stages.
