New Dog Health Blog is Too Dog Gone Good!

New Dog Health Blog is Too Dog Gone Good!

Lincoln, NE (PRWEB) February 11, 2009

There are numerous dog sites on the internet, but none can compare to the well put together and comprehensive force that is OverallDog.com. Providing the best information for everything involving dogs – such as health, training and food – the site also has a store. Recently, the blog launched a sister blog that delves into detailed information and news.

“I have an appreciation for dogs and their welfare. My heart is with them,” said dog enthusiast Wendy Evans.

Evans is the founder of http://www.OverallDog.com, a weblog that specializes in information about dog health and nutrition and dog training and behavioral tips. In addition to having a comprehensive informational website, Evans also has a store that has canine necessities such as dog boots, flea and tick deterrents, and grooming supplies.

“I wanted to build something that was a one-stop resource for dog owners,” said Evans. “I also have links to natural dog food sites and additional helpful sources.”

One of the unique features of OverallDog.com is the sister blog Evans has built that goes into further detail in regards to training and news involving dogs and puppies.

“It was made to pretty much keep on what’s current,” Evans said of http://www.OverallDogInfo.com. “I wanted to have a place online where people could connect and find common ground with how we feel about our dogs and to ensure that kind of environment, I had to have a blog that focused on news and dove deeper into specific details about how to properly train and raise dogs and puppies.”

The new companion blog is just one of many features that Evans is implementing for OverallDog.com. She also hopes to expand the sources for natural food, as well as the dog health page.

“There’s so much more to add. There are improvements and advances in canine health and I want to make sure that Overall Dog stays in step with the times,” Evans explained.

While so many dog sites focus on making a buck, OverallDog.com is one of the few online sources that is built on a love of dogs and is able to provide helpful hints for people who treat their dogs as family members and not just pets.

Free Expert Advice on Caring for A Beloved Dog

Free Expert Advice on Caring for A Beloved Dog

Hamilton, OH (PRWEB) October 16, 2006

The launch of http://www.special-dog.com is great news for dog lovers everywhere. The website contains valuable information and further resources on everything the caring dog lover needs to know in order to properly care for and raise their beloved pet, including the tips provided below.

http://www.special-dog.com has been developed by experienced dog breeders Janet and Larry Combs specifically for dog lovers who want to properly care for and train their dog. Larry and Janet have over 15 years of breeding, training and grooming experience. And they are now ready to share their invaluable knowledge.

“We have been breeding dogs for over 15 years and we have learned a lot about caring for and training many breeds of dogs. We have spoken with many hundreds of dog owners over the years about caring for dogs. We have also gained knowledge on nutrition and health from veterinarians and training techniques from professional dog obedience trainers. We would now like to share our knowledge with dog lovers everywhere.”

Whether it is a Shih Tzu, Maltese, Bichon Frise, Dachshund ,Siberian Husky, or any breed of dog http://www.special-dog.com provides all the answers for everything from puppy toilet training, nutrition for puppies and older dogs to obedience training and grooming. There are also lots of links to other resources containing dog information. The website will also appeal to anyone thinking of adding a dog to their household. It provides valuable resources for choosing the right breed of dog and picking the right dog from the litter.

Here’s just one of the handy tips that dog lovers will find on http://www.special-dog.com

“An easy and often overlooked form of Shih Tzu training is to simply keep objects that might tempt her out of reach. Whenever she starts gnawing on a forbidden item, remove it immediately and tell her “No, no!” in your most disapproving voice. Then give her an approved chewing object (always keep a variety of safe chewing toys on hand) and praise her when she chews it. She will soon learn to prefer her approved chew toys because they lead to praise instead of scolding.”

Another tip on housebreaking a puppy includes:

“When learning how to housebreak a puppy you should encourage your puppy to use a specific area. Initial ’paper training’ will only give you an extra lesson to teach them later. They may also develop a habit of peeing on any newspaper!

“A good, healthy, regular diet means that your puppy should need to “go” at roughly the same time each day, usually just after they have eaten. Remember your puppy needs to urinate at shorter intervals. “

The website also offers suggestions on what to do with a dog that pulls on its lead when someone, or another dog, approaches.

“A dog who is highly excited needs calm, slow handling. A common mistake owners make is to move quickly, grabbing at the leash and collar.”

For anyone that has ever taken a dog for a walk, they will understand just how valuable this advice can be.

Dog lovers who visit http://www.special-dog.com can also sign up for a free regular newsletter and receive even more handy hints on training, health, grooming and nutrition for their dog.

BarkSlope.com Launches Dog Blog to Increase Brand Loyalty and Solve Search Engine Optimization Challenges

BarkSlope.com Launches Dog Blog to Increase Brand Loyalty and Solve Search Engine Optimization Challenges

Chicago, IL (PRWEB) March 23, 2006

BarkSlope.com, one of the internet’s leading dog boutiques, officially launched the Bark Slope Dog Blog last month. BarkSlope.com is one of the first dog boutiques in its class to offer an active blog to it’s customers.

“We see the dog blog as a great way to increase our online presence and authority within the dog community. We want to be seen as a recognizable resource, not just a retail store,” says Bark Slope President and resident blogger, Kim Zlatin. “The dog boutique industry is very crowded and we wanted to set ourselves apart from other online boutiques; the blog was the perfect opportunity to do just that.”

Blogs are increasingly beating out e-commerce and corporate websites in search engine rankings. Since they are informational in nature, blogs are considered a search engine friendly form of website promotion. Blogs include fresh content that not only fare well with the search engines, but they tend to draw repeat visitors to a website.

The Bark Slope Dog Blog will focus on important dog related news and trends and will also cover lighter topics such as dog related events and fashion tips. There are many dog blogs in existence, but few, if any, are attached to a high-ranking E-commerce site. While it is common to find these blogs speaking from a dog’s perspective, the Bark Slope Dog Blog will be written from the perspective of a modern dog owner and entrepreneur. The blog will be updated on a regular basis to ensure that the subscribers have fresh reading material of interest to them as well as helping to increase the recognition of the Bark Slope brand.

About BarkSlope.com:

http://www.BarkSlope.com runs on the Yahoo! Store Merchant Solutions platform and has been online since June of 2005 offering high end dog products including http://www.barkslope.com/dog-beds-main.html dog beds, http://www.barkslope.com/dog-carriers.html dog carriers, bowls, spa items and http://www.barkslope.com/dogclothes.html dog clothing to clientele with discriminating taste. The Bark Slope Dog Blog is the first in a series of innovative marketing strategies aimed at increasing website traffic and brand loyalty for Bark Slope.

World Record Win Tips the Scale for ‘Humanitarian’ Dog Care

World Record Win Tips the Scale for ‘Humanitarian’ Dog Care

Nome, Alaska (PRWEB) March 18, 2008

You could say that reigning champion, Lance Mackey, has scored his version of the triple crown in dog sports. Lance and his dog team achieved what experts once considered “impossible”. They won the grueling 1000 mile Yukon Quest and the 1100 Iditirod Trail Sled Dog Race championships. Both are very prestigious dog sports events. As if that wasn’t enough, Lance was honored by the veterinarian’s “Humanitarian Award” for his outstanding dog care.

And all in the last six weeks.

Dog owners all over the world – with or without “mushing” experience or interest – should take careful note here. The theme is “success and performance” coupled with “superior dog care”.

According to Lance Mackey, there is no “secret” here. Both superior dog care and superior dog performance are possible in the Redpaw approach to dog care nourishment. See http://redpawfeed.com/pages/products.php. “This isn’t just about mushing. It’s not even about dog sports. It is about the extraordinary dog care breakthrough achieved here”, according to Lance himself.

Until Lance and his dog sled team achieved this milestone, no one believed it was possible to win the two championships, much less back to back. Now, all dog sports – and dog care enthusiasts – will do well to comb every detail of Lance Mackey’s “secret”.

Mushing dogs are bred for this rigorous “sport of dog sports”. This kind of canine athletic performance sets standards long needed for thorough studies in dog care nutrition in general.

The grueling 1000 mile Yukon Quest – one of the most demanding in all dog sports – tests dog care and performance to the max. But, to turn about in less than two weeks with the same dogs and win the prestigious 1100 mile Anchorage to Nome, Alaska, Iditarod, was considered impossible by experts.

What’s Lance’s “not-so-secret” approach? A very special dog care program, now available to every dog owner. Hence the award offered by veterinarians who oversee the event and are familiar with dog sports.

It’s no secret that the “double win” by Lance and his dog team utilized the Redpaw formula for dog care. Just last year, five of the first ten winners of the 2007 Iditirod championship alone used Redpaw in their dog care preparations. It appeared a new standard for dog sports, working dogs and dog care in general was in the making.

But, this year was the first “Double – Double” as they call it in the mushing world. Lance and his team won the Yukon Quest and the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race again back to back. That’s two years in a row. It wasn’t supposed to happen once. The world of dog sports has now achieved a first ever milestone.

Taking nothing away from Lance Mackey, a highlight to the story was what the veterinarians saw in Lance’s performance. They honored him with their prestigious award because they were impressed by his singular approach to dog care. Lance uses Redpaw to provide what he believes is “proven nutritional performance for dog sports”. It is the cornerstone of his dog care program.

His dogs are not injury-prone. Despite the rigors of mushing, his dogs suffer nothing by way of major injuries. And they demonstrate essentials in dog care nutrition:

Healthy coats, eyes, and nails are the consistent “outward signs of excellence in dog care”, according to dog care nutrition expert Eric Morris. See http://redpawfeed.com/pages/p_poweredge38k.php.

“Outstanding focus and happy attitudes are results we all want from a dog care regimen. These are vital in both dog sports and “quality of life” for general canine care”, says Morris.

Strong collagen with connective tissue development is difficult to sustain in any dog care program. Lance’s victories demonstrate this consistent Redpaw advantage. http://redpawfeed.com/pages/honorroll.php.

Mature muscular development lacking obesity traits distinguishes this dog care regimen.

All of this reflects the kind of dog care requirements known to vets for healthy internal organ, bone, and tissue assessment. Dog care nutrition is the cornerstone to the three components making for effective preparation in all dog sports: training, nutrition, and breeding.

Senator Al Franken Introduces New Legislation for Funding to Train Service Dogs to Assist Veterans Wounded in the Line of Duty

Senator Al Franken Introduces New Legislation for Funding to Train Service Dogs to Assist Veterans Wounded in the Line of Duty

Portland, Maine, New York City and North Brookfield, Mass. (PRWEB) August 4, 2009

August 4, 2009 — FetchDog, a Portland-based company dedicated to serving the comprehensive needs of passionate dog owners and offering high quality dog supplies, today applauded proposed legislation by Senator Al Franken to provide funding to train service dogs for military veterans wounded – physically and emotionally – in the line of duty. “Service dogs…can be of immense benefit to vets suffering from physical and emotional wounds,” Franken commented in the July 18, 2009 Minneapolis Star Tribune. “Yes, they provide companionship. But they can also detect changes in a person’s breathing, perspiration or scent to anticipate and ward off an impending panic attack with some well-timed nuzzling. They are trained to let their masters know when it’s time to take their medication and to wake them from terrifying nightmares.” The legislation will fund training for hundreds of dogs – and provide vital assistance to hundreds of veterans.

In recent months, FetchDog has teamed with Vibram Pet Products to support Puppies Behind Bars (PBB) and its initiative, Dog Tags, Service Dogs for Those Who’ve Served Us. Through this program, prison inmates are trained to raise puppies to become service dogs for wounded veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. And on August 6, 2009, Award-winning actress, avid dog lover and author of FetchDog.com’s “Lively Licks” blog, Glenn Close, will appear in a re-broadcast of the Oprah Winfrey Show to give viewers an inside look at the organization’s efforts. During the program, she will present host Winfrey with FetchDog.com’s special edition Chewy Shoe dog toy. For every toy sold, FetchDog and Chewy Shoe’s manufacturer, Vibram Pet Products, will both donate $ 1 to support Dog Tags. The toy is available for purchase at FetchDog.com or through FetchDog’s catalog.

During the segment, viewers will meet Sgt. Allen Hill and his service dog, Frankie. Glenn Close will reunite the two with Frankie’s inmate trainer at the Fishkill Correctional Facility in Beacon, N.Y. Frankie lived at the facility for 18 months before moving on to other locations for additional training — ultimately being placed with Sgt. Hill free of charge. Sgt. Hill also met with other inmate trainers at the facility.

“I have been aware of Puppies Behind Bars for a long time and am proud to support their Dog Tags initiative,” said Close. “It’s totally a win-win situation for all involved. On one hand, the inmates who qualify for PBB are given a chance to give back to society and learn invaluable skills that will prove vital if they ever re-enter life outside prison. On the other, wounded soldiers are given a chance to rebuild their shattered lives — to be released from the prison of their wounds. What unites both inmate and soldier is the love, loyalty and talent of a PBB dog. PBB truly changes lives.”

Puppies Behind Bars launched the Dog Tags: Service Dogs for Those Who’ve Served Us program in 2006 to help injured veterans cope with the challenges of their daily lives. The specially trained Golden and Labrador Retrievers can perform tasks such as opening and closing doors, assisting with grocery shopping and retrieving food from the refrigerator. For veterans suffering from the signature injuries of the war — Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and traumatic brain injury (TBI) — and those who are physically disabled, the dogs are trained to remind their companions to take medications and to help them cope with the new challenges they face as they proceed through their daily routines.

“Sergeant Hill is just one example of the many soldiers who are returning from Iraq and Afghanistan and need help adjusting to life back at home,” said Gloria Gilbert Stoga, founder and president, Puppies Behind Bars. “PBB is a powerful resource and we are so grateful for the generosity of FetchDog and Vibram — their donations from sales of the Chewy Shoe toy will enable us to continue to provide those who’ve served our country with the support and resources they deserve.”

The Dog Tags Chewy Shoe features a real red, white and blue shoe sole with a tough throwing/pulling cord for maximum playtime fun. It is made of rugged natural rubber by Vibram Pet Products, made exclusively in the United States by Quabaug Corporation, the company that provides the majority of the shoe soles currently in use by the U.S. military.

Gilbert Stoga founded Puppies Behind Bars in 1997 to raise guide dogs for the blind, adding the training of explosive detection dogs following the events of Sept. 11, 2001. In 2006, the group started raising dogs to assist disabled and autistic children and disabled adults, expanding to launch the Dog Tags program for soldiers returning from Iraq and Afghanistan the same year.

Dog Owners and Dog Daycares Take Notice: The Top Six Diseases You Need to Watch for in Dogs

Dog Owners and Dog Daycares Take Notice: The Top Six Diseases You Need to Watch for in Dogs

Waterloo, ON (PRWEB) May 30, 2007

As a dog owner, or dog care giver it is important to be aware of the major diseases to keep an eye on when interacting with dogs. Veterinary Pet Insurance (the number one provider of pet insurance in America) recently released a report on the most common diseases clients file claims for.

The six most common diseases are as follows:

1) Skin allergies

2) Ear infections

3) Stomach upsets

4) Urinary tract infection

5) Benign Tumors

6) Pyoderma (hot spots/bacterial skin infections)

According to DogDayCare-Experts.com, as the owner or caregiver of a dog it can be expected that the dog will experience at least one of these problems during their lifetime. Skin allergies, Ear infections, and Pyoderma can be found during any stage of a dog’s life. While an upset stomach may be more prevalent in puppies because of their tendency to chew and eat everything in sight. Tumors, Skin diseases, and Arthritis will be more common with older dogs.

It’s hard to prevent a dog from getting an infection or disease, but… it is possible to minimize the affects of disease by spending a lot of time with your dog and catching these problems as early as possible. When one spends quality time petting and playing with a dog it is easy to realize that a dog has sore joints or skin infections. By catching these problems in the early stages it is possible to greatly reduce the effect some of these diseases can have on a dog.

Dog owners and especially Dog Daycares should keep these top six diseases dogs get in mind. It is important for someone who runs a Dog Daycare to do a daily check on each dog to ensure they do not have any fleas, skin infections, sore joints, or lumps anywhere on their body. Running a Dog Daycare is a unique experience and it is important to take extra time and make sure they are diseases free.

As a Dog Daycare owner it is very important to make sure all dogs are healthy and free of disease. If a sick dog is found… inform the owner of the dog immediately. Even though sharing bad news is not fun, the dog owner will greatly appreciate the prompt warning. If a sick dog is found… be sure to separate this dog from the group until it is feeling better. This will prevent the spread of disease as well as allowing the sick or infected dog to recuperate without dealing with social pressures in a pack.

Websites like: http://www.dogdaycare-experts.com continue to provide dog daycare owners with quality information. To receive more exciting and valuable resources on the booming Dog Daycare industry stop by their website and sign up for Dog Business Unleashed, a free and informative bi-weekly newsletter.

Dog Federation of New York Expresses Deep Sorrow at Recent Dog-Related Fatality in Rockland County, New York, and Offers Its Assistance to Community Leaders

Glenham, NY (PRWEB) October 11, 2006

The Dog Federation of New York sends its sincere condolences to the family of Jeannine Fusco, along with hopes that her sister, Valerie Wall, will quickly and fully recover from her injuries.

Members of DFNY were very saddened by news of the tragedy in Airmont, NY. “We are deeply troubled to learn of Ms. Fusco’s death. Our hearts go out to her family and friends,” commented Mahlon Goer, spokesperson.

Though often creating much concern, dog related fatalities are extremely unusual. Dog bites are a much larger public safety issue. The Dog Federation of New York is committed to working with municipalities across the state to develop preventative dog owner education programs, and encourages local governments to implement dog safety or dog bite prevention programs, particularly for school-aged children, so that such tragedies will never be repeated. Dog safety or bite prevention programs have proven their value to the public over and over, and DFNY offers its assistance to public officials and community leaders to coordinate such programs.

About the Dog Federation of New York:

The Dog Federation of New York is a statewide coalition of dog clubs, organizations and individual dog owners that serves the public interest by educating citizens and public officials on dog safety and responsible dog ownership. DFNY advocates for strong, and humane dog-related legislation.

The Dog Federation of New York welcomes all dog owners and dog-related organizations in New York. Visit us on the web at http://www.DogFederationofNewYork.org.

The Search is On … for America’s Top Dogs

Stroudsburg, PA (PRWEB) July 22, 2006

The American Dogs of Distinction announced that their nationwide search continues for America’s top dogs! Nominations for inclusion in the ’2007 American Dogs of Distinction’ are currently being accepted on their company’s website http://american-dogs-of-distinction.com. So far, the response is overwhelming. Prominent dogs from all sectors are being nominated. Dogs that are accepted into this publication might be top ranking dogs (in conformation, obedience, agility, herding, etc) and/or are the extraordinary working, service or therapy dogs. They are dogs that ‘make a difference’ in our lives and the lives of others.

The 2007 American Dogs of Distinction is a comprehensive historical compilation of biographical profiles and achievements made by ‘American dogs of distinction’. No one has ever compiled such comprehensive reference data on America’s top dogs of yesterday and today. There are countless biographical reference books available today, but this is the first one that is specific to dogs. In the aftermath of the Oklahoma bombings, 9-11, Katrina and the countless other national and local emergencies where law Enforcement Dogs, Service Dogs and Search & Rescue Dogs are called upon to save human lives and property we salute their efforts but few people remember their names. We hear about the major disasters but the contributions of guide dogs, therapy dogs, assistance dogs, law enforcement dogs and countless others occur on a daily basis. Their contributions to society are impossible measure.

The 1st Edition of the American Dogs of Distinction will be a tribute and lasting memorial to all dogs, their agents, owners, trainers and handlers. This memorable book will surely be valued for its biographical reference data, and is destined to become a treasured favorite of dog lovers everywhere! In addition to the hardcopy publication, The American Dogs of Distinction plans to have an on-line database of the biographical data contained in their book. An interesting perk is the company will ‘update’ the information on a quarterly basis.

For dogs that are winning awards, achievements or working towards top rankings it will be a nice feature to have an on-line database with current and accurate information.

The 2007 American Dogs of Distinction 1st Edition publication will only be distributed through the American Dogs of Distinction website. Reserve copies of the ’2007 American Dogs of Distinction’ can be ordered on their website. Advance sales are now being accepted.

To nominate a dog, owners and handlers must complete an on-line form that gathers information about their dog(s). Everything from the basic information (i.e.; name, age, sex, breed, etc) to the awards, titles, and achievements the dogs have earned. There is no fee to nominate a dog or to list a dog in any of their publications – it’s free.
